I organised a trip to stay at the Armitage house in Newcastle County Down for my whole family when my sister was visiting us in England from Australia . We booked the house for 4 days and basically didn’t leave it because everything was so perfect . The ocean views are stunning and the house is immaculate in every way and so big that 10 of us stayed and it still felt big . The house was perfect for a chilled stay cooking good food and drinking and spending quality time together. The owner and housekeepers were so helpful with any thing we needed. I can not recommend highly enough. — Neil A, 03 Oct 2017
Where do I start, found Armitage in October 2016' fell in love with the house so beautifully renovated, everything of highest standards, booked for 12 first two weeks July 2017. Such comfortable beds, three great spacious bathrooms (everything in house spacious) spent evenings in kitchen enjoying view and playing cards. Bedrooms lovely. Michael did all in his power to make our stay wonderful. Bus stop at door and cost £17 for two adults 4 children to travel anywhere in N.I. On bus for day. Decent walk into town centre, was very glad we didn't stay in centre, Armitage perfect location. The back garden was maybe my favorite part, made me think secret Garden, three levels, grandchildren played ParKor and football, loved it. Another lovely touch was fresh wheaten bread and soda bread, fresh milk to welcome us. Have to mention Harbor shop on corner, grandkids were there every day, and was great when needing an ingredient. Surprised ourselves that we didn't eat out once, kitchen so great and well equipped we just enjoyed staying in. I have already recommended to friends wanting to go to Ireland. Hopefully also we will be back, maybe by the time 10 different friends have been, I'll get free weekend. First holiday I haven't wanted to go home from. — Carol B, 31 Aug 2017
Rented this house over the weekend for our wedding & it was brilliant. It had everything you needed. A home away from home. Will be back to stay and would recommend to anyone. — Kathleen McMahon, 21 Aug 2017
Our Family of 9 (4 adults and 5 children) stayed here for the past two weeks on a vacation from Canada. This house, location and Micheal (the owner) far exceeded our expectation!! We will not forget this vacation! The kids fell in love with this house!! It is beautifully done with lots of room for everyone! We enjoyed swimming in the sea and hiking the Mourne Mountains! The views are amazing and the kids loved loved playing in the backyard!! A short walk to town but we couldn't wait to get back to "our" house!🤣 would definitely recommend to any and everyone!! — Lele, 01 Jul 2017
We needed a house for a family gathering/celebration not far from home and with outdoor things to do. This house ticked all those boxes and many more besides..... the space, cleanliness, unlimited amount of cooking utensils, board games and a fabulous rocking horse!! The location on the edge of town where a short walk took you to beach, harbour, shops, bars, restaurants made it so convenient. Also a short walk to Donard park and five minute drive to Tollymore forest park. We couldn't recommend this property enough. — Mary, 27 Jun 2017
Very well appointed and spacious holiday home in a great location. Close to the town, shops, pubs and restaurants. The house is very well equipped, recently renovated and made a fantastic base for our large family group. The bedrooms are large and the 3 bath/shower rooms and downstairs WC meant that nobody got in each other's way. The fresh bread and milk left for us was a nice touch. The setting, close to the waterfront, is beautiful and the views across the bay from the bedrooms are fantastic, especially in the morning as the sun rises in front of the house. Overall, a fantastic and luxurious property in a great location. — Mike & Aoife, 18 Apr 2017
I stayed here in August for a Friday and Saturday night with my extended family. The owner contacted me beforehand and was very welcoming and accommodating with check in times. The house itself is in a really good location, which meant we could walk to bars and restaurants easily. This was really handy as it meant we didn't need to spend money on taxis or have someone drive. Inside the house is really nicely decorated. The furniture is modern and the beds are comfy. My family are pretty fussy about cleanliness so it was a big positive for us that the house was spotless. As well as the kitchen/dining room there is a large living room with a wood burning stove. The views from the rooms facing out from the front of the house over the water are great. I'm sure it is not always possible but as there were no guests staying there the day we left the owner/housekeeper were also very laid back when it came to what time we checked out, which made a nice change from staying in hotels! We would definitely stay again and hopefully will be back soon! — Roy S, 21 Sep 2016
My friends and I travelled up from Waterford to visit Newcastle for the first time. I was lucky enough to have found this beautiful house and even though the photos on the website are fab, the reality was so far beyond what we had expected. A real home from home with lots of attention to detail. There were 10 of us staying and we were absolutely blown away by the space and comfort it provided. The surrounding area is beautiful and the views from the house idyllic. Location is wonderful for anyone interested in hiking among other outdoor activities with the house situated at the foot of Slieve Donard. I would recommend this beautiful house to anyone and will definitely be planning a trip to stay there again. — April E, 22 Aug 2016
Welcoming was very warm and inviting house is beautiful plenty of room for everyone would definitely recommend this house — Pauline K, 14 Jun 2016
9 of us stayed in this house for a 30th Birthday celebration weekend and it was just perfect. Very spacious in all the rooms and everything finished to a very high standard including plenty of bathrooms for so many people sharing! Beautiful views over the sea and not too far to walk into Newcastle. The kitchen was also very well equipped had we been cooking for ourselves. We received a very warm welcome and were able to light the stove as well as the weather wasn't quite what you'd expect in May! I would highly recommend this house for a large group staying and would happily go back for a longer stay! — Naomi K, 23 May 2016
10 of us stayed here for 3 nights over the duration of our wedding preparations and celebrations in the local Hugh McCanns. The place is so well equipped and the owners make you feel very welcome! There is milk, wheaten bread and sofa bread from the local bakery there on your arrival. If you have any problems they are quick to resolve these :D The living areas are lovely and the kitchen is perfect for friends to gather and have fun. The living room is so cozy with its wood burning stove and great for chilling. The house is big enough so that if you want a break from the other members of your party you can easily sneak off and read a book :D Over all we all had a great time and would definitely like to go back! — Beki C, 01 May 2016
Armitage House was beyond our expectations! It was so clean, comfortable and well equipped and very spacious. Everything had been so well thought out. We were able to accommodate ten adults and four children very comfortably. The location was perfect with a wonderful sea view and within short walking distance of town centre. — Mrs Jane B, 11 Apr 2016
A large group of friends were down for a wedding, which was held at O'Hare's. The house was only a 10 min walk away so it was perfect. Where to begin with the house was amazing, such a beautiful property, very spacious and the decor was fabulous. Not to mention the beds were unbelievably comfortable! We met the housekeeper who was lovely, she gave us a tour and explained how everything worked. There was also a welcome pack with some wheaten, soda farls, butter and milk. All in all we had a great stay and I would definitely recommend this place to anyone. Lastly, many thanks to Mike, who was very prompt and friendly in his communication. — Leigh Mallon, 28 Jan 2016
Cannot express enough how great this house was. A group of 12 stayed in the house to celebrate a 40th birthday. The house has plenty of space and anything you might need. Great views, quick walk to the town, great rooms and owner was more than helpful. We will no doubt look into staying here again in the future. It felt like a proper getaway even though we live 30 minutes away. — UNC_Dolph... Dromara, United Kingdom, 06 Sep 2015
Armitage House is on the seafront, close to the harbour the forests and mountains. Also, it is a short, but very pleasant walk, into the centre of Newcastle. Recently refurbished, the house is beautifully finished and the gem in the crown is the stunning kitchen and dining area which overlooks the sea. The house is great for a large group, everyone seems to have space, yet it also works really well for a smaller numbers. Several decent pubs and restaurants, a really good cafe and even a local convenience store are all just a short walk away. Simply perfect! — John R, 16 Aug 2015
Excellent accommodation with all the services you could wish. Aga in Kitchen was a bonus as was the heating and laundry equipment. The house is on the beachfront and in walking distance of town, coffee ,bakeries and restaurants.
Golf was the reason for our visit and this was the perfect location!

11 of us stayed in armitage house, to celebrate a family birthday. We were greeted on arrival to a lovely welcome basket with wheaten bread and soda farls. A really nice touch. The house is in an excellent location and had plenty of room for us all. It was 10 minute walk into the town, with superb views on the way. The gardens were ideal as we had small children with us, so they could play in the secured front or back garden. The owner Michael, was extremely helpful with any queries we had before and during our stay. I would recommend this property to anyone looking for a relaxing break by the sea. — Symla, 24 Jun 2015
We stayed at armitage house for 3 nights in june and really enjoyed the break, the house was magnificent, everything new, kitchen, showers, linen, towels cutlery etc, there were 7 of us plus baby of 15 months and everyone had lots of space, the house could sleep 10 people comfortably, The court-yard/garden at back was a real sun-trap, and only 100Mtr to shop for papers and ice-cream, the 2 local bars were only 300 mtrs away also. We were provided with a welcome pack of bread and wine and had use of lots of dvd's. The prom was a 10 min walk away and we had lovely sea views to the front and the Mournes to the rear. a great place for bikers and walkers to stay. will be back again. — Ken Henderson, 17 Jun 2015

Armitage House is fabulous. Sea views to the front and mountains behind. It is huge with amazing big light and airy rooms. Beds are extremely comfortable. Lovely sunny garden. It is very well equipped with everything you could possibly need for your stay. 10 mins walk from Newcastle centre. Nice pub across the road and shop few doors up. What more could you ask for? Michael, the owner, was very helpful with any enquiries we had. I would highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a large house as a holiday rental. — Tess, 08 Jun 2015
